Asian talents have been reigning in the world of entertainment for a long time. But to make it to the Oscars, the talents are slowly expanding on the Oscar stage. It is not surprising anymore that the Asian talent can make it to the Oscars since the Parasite movie. The historic victory last year has given a nod to many parties. And many are wondering if it will take place again. The answer is a big YES.

It is the first time we witness that many Asian talents have been nominated in a particular category. The announcement of Oscars 2021 nominations have featured a large number of Asian nominees.

Riz Ahmed

Back then, Riz Ahmed reserved the leading acting Emmy award in 2017. it was also the first Muslim and first Asian actor ever to win the Emmy award. The award was for the limited series entitled The Night Of. The nomination also marks him as the first Muslim nominated for the Oscars for Best Actor category for Sound of Metal film. Though it is the first time for oscar, he has reserved the second Golden Globe nomination.

Lee Isaac Chung

Lee Isaac Chung gets a nod for the Best Director Nomination for Minari.  Minari was inspired by his childhood experiences in Arkansas. So, we can see how this work has such a great relationship with him.

Derek Tsang

Better Days is in the Best International Feature Film nomination.

Nomination: Best International Feature Film for Better Days. Tsang also marked himself as the first Hong Kong director to receive the nomination.

Youn Yuh-Jung

Youn Yuh-Jung’s name has been around in the world of entertainment for decades. The 73-year-old actress has been in the career for over half a century. The nomination for her is the Best Supporting Actress for Minari (2020).

It is the first time ever a South Korean artist gets a nomination for this category.

Steven Yeun

Probably most of you have known Steven Yeun from the iconic AMC series The Walking Dead. He is now making history as the first Korean-American actor to get a nod for Best Actor category nomination. The Best Actor for Minari really suits him a lot.

Steven Yeun’s latest film, Minari scored 98% at Rotten Tomatoes. Experts slated it as one of the best films in 2020.

Chloe Zhao

Chloe Zhao marked herself as the first Asian woman to achieve the Best Director award at Golden Globes. Now for the Oscars, the nomination of Best Director goes to her for her Nomad Land film. Along with Emerald Fennell, it is the first time that two women get the nods to the same category in the history of Oscars. It is undeniable that Nomadland has brought her to the spotlight.
